Queen Elizabeth II's "Her Life in Style" exhibition, launched around her 100th birthday in April, has achieved unprecedented success. The exhibition, showcasing over 300 pieces from the monarch's extensive wardrobe, has sold out its initial run. This overwhelming response has led curators to extend the exhibition for an additional six months at the King's Gallery.
Originally scheduled to close on October 18, the exhibition will now run until April 18, 2027. This extension is anticipated to draw another 200,000 visitors, bringing the total potential attendance to 400,000. This figure positions the exhibition to become the most visited in the history of the Royal Collection Trust.
The collection features a diverse range of items, from childhood dresses and wedding attire to the dress worn by the Queen's stunt double for the London 2012 Olympics ceremony. Many pieces, including never-before-seen childhood dresses and Jeanne Lanvin-designed dresses for Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, are on public display for the first time.
Curators hope the exhibition will highlight the importance of fashion in the Queen's role and debunk the myth that her sister, Princess Margaret, was the more fashionable of the two. The exhibition offers a deep dive into the personal connection Elizabeth II had with her designers, revealing her keen interest in her public image and personal style.
