Elderly Couple's Wait: 'Pyre' Trailer Captures Hearts

National Award-winning filmmaker Vinod Kapri's new film, 'Pyre,' has generated considerable buzz following the release of its trailer, which has been lauded by industry stalwarts. Vishal Bhardwaj, Manoj Bajpayee, and Ayushmann Khurrana have all shared their positive reactions on social media, praising the film's evocative preview and expressing anticipation for its release.

Set against the backdrop of Uttarakhand's Kumaon region, 'Pyre' centers on an elderly couple whose lives are defined by their cherished memories and the long wait for their children. These children have left their ancestral village in pursuit of better opportunities, leaving their parents to navigate life and companionship.

The film artfully explores profound themes of love, the quietude of ageing, and enduring companionship. It also sheds light on the emotional impact of migration on the elderly who remain in their native villages. The lead roles are compellingly portrayed by 80-year-old Padam Singh Kapri and 70-year-old Heera Devi, both local residents with no prior acting experience.

'Pyre' has already garnered international acclaim at film festivals. Produced by Vinod Kapri, Suresh Joshi, and Arindra Rai Chaudhuri, the film has also received appreciation from other notable personalities. 'Pyre' is slated for a theatrical release across India on October 30, 2026, in Hindi and Malayalam.
