The historic Shri Kasba Ganapati temple in Pune recently reopened after a significant restoration of its centuries-old idol. During the process, nearly 900kg of shendur, the sacred orange powder, was carefully removed. This has led to a surge in requests from devotees eager to receive the shendur as prasad for their home shrines.
The temple trust is currently awaiting test results from the state government's archaeology department before making a decision on distributing the shendur. This careful approach underscores the spiritual and historical importance of the idol, which is considered Pune's presiding deity and was established in the early 17th century.
Following its reopening on Wednesday, the temple saw massive crowds, with over two lakh devotees visiting on December 31 and January 1 to see the restored idol. While the trust distributed pedha and sheera on these days, the unique situation regarding the shendur has captured the attention of the local community.
