Pune is set to host a significant three-day film festival from August 21 to August 23. This cinematic event is a collaborative effort between the National Film Archive of India (NFDC-NFAI), FIPRESCI-India, and the Pune International Centre. The festival will take place at the NFDC-NFAI Auditorium on Law College Road.
The curated festival will screen ten contemporary Indian films, drawing from a spectrum of regional languages including Magadhi, Karbi, Rajasthani, Mising, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, and Hindi. The primary objective is to introduce Pune audiences to underrepresented cinematic voices and narratives from various parts of India.
Films selected represent linguistic communities such as the Mising people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and the Karbi community of Assam. Additionally, films in Magadhi, a language prominent in Bihar, will be featured. Organizers believe this blend of languages and cultural perspectives will expose audiences to unique storytelling traditions.
This initiative seeks to expand the appreciation of India's diverse film industry beyond its mainstream offerings. It also aims to leverage cinema as a powerful tool for cultural exchange, dialogue, and mutual understanding across different communities and generations. Admission to all screenings is free, offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
