A bar in Providence, Rhode Island, has earned a significant national recognition, marking a first for the state. Loma was honored with the 2026 James Beard Award for Best New Bar at a ceremony held on June 15.
This prestigious award celebrates establishments demonstrating excellence in beverages, hospitality, and operational success. Loma, situated at 112 Spruce St. on Federal Hill, opened its doors at the end of 2024, making it eligible for the award.
The bar's success is attributed to its team: Leishla Maldonado, a longtime Providence bartender, and her partners, Osman and Yefri Cortave. Maldonado, of Puerto Rican descent, and the Cortave brothers, who are Guatemalan, infuse their heritage into every aspect of Loma's offerings.
Loma focuses on exceptional hospitality, serving a diverse menu that includes featured spirits, low-ABV cocktails (cocteles), and zero-proof drinks. The bar has also been actively sharing its unique approach by appearing at other notable bars across the country in recent months.
