Fan Power Wins: Project Hail Mary Dominates Indian IMAX
27 Mar
Summary
- Film initially secured only 6 of 34 Indian IMAX screens.
- Fan pressure led exhibitors to grant all 34 IMAX screens.
- Early shows scheduled for 3:45 am and 6:30 am on weekend.

Initially, Project Hail Mary struggled for screen time in India, being shown on just 6 out of 34 available IMAX screens on its release day, March 26. This limited showcasing caused concern among industry professionals and fans alike.
Following significant reporting and a strong response from fans, exhibitors relented. As of Friday, March 27, the film is now screening on all 34 IMAX screens across the country. Sony Pictures had initially negotiated for show-sharing, not exclusive rights, and ultimately secured what they requested.
The film's availability has dramatically increased, with many locations offering early morning shows. Eros cinema is even scheduled to host a 3:45 am show over the weekend, March 28-29. Several other cinemas are starting screenings at 7:00 am or 7:30 am, with some in Bengaluru showing it as early as 6:30 am.
Despite limited IMAX availability on its opening day, Project Hail Mary garnered approximately Rs. 2 crores on Thursday, March 26. Trade sources anticipate a substantial increase in its box office collection throughout the Friday to Sunday period.
