A remarkable act of generosity has seen a teenage musical prodigy receive a significant gift. Neythen, a 13-year-old from Liskeard, Cornwall, was presented with a new £8,500 euphonium.
The instrument was donated by Brian Routledge, a 92-year-old retired police officer from Horrabridge, Devon. Routledge, who is living with terminal cancer, was so profoundly moved by Neythen's playing that he decided to provide the top-quality Dutch-made Adams euphonium.
Neythen has a proven track record of musical excellence, having won the most promising player award at the Saltash Music Festival for four consecutive years. He met Routledge through their shared involvement in the Saltash Town Band.
Routledge stated he was "absolutely amazed" by Neythen's abilities and derived "immense pleasure" from supporting his burgeoning talent. Neythen described the instrument as a "very generous gift" that will aid his musical development.
