Priyanka Chopra: Hollywood Lacks Bollywood's Creative Spark

Priyanka Chopra Jonas observed that her transition from Bollywood to Hollywood has not yet yielded the same breadth of creative work she experienced in India.

During a discussion at the Cannes Lions conference, the 43-year-old actor noted that her Hindi-language career provided opportunities to collaborate with top filmmakers and actors, explore diverse genres, and tell varied stories. In contrast, her English-language projects in Hollywood have offered less variety to date.

Chopra Jonas articulated her ambition to infuse her future English-language roles with the same character diversity she achieved in India. She highlighted her decision to venture into film production as a strategic move to develop lead parts that challenge conventional studio perceptions of roles for Indian actors.

She explained that this initiative was partly inspired by colleagues facing a "glass ceiling" in entertainment, reinforcing the need for women to "do it yourself." Chopra Jonas also reflected on how marriage and motherhood have profoundly reshaped her life and career decisions.

Speaking on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast months earlier, she mentioned feeling "limited" in Bollywood and seeking broader opportunities, emphasizing her belief in "pivoting" when faced with career challenges.

Her notable international credits include "Baywatch," "The Matrix Resurrections," and the series "Citadel." Upcoming projects include a film with Orlando Bloom and Mira Nair's "Amri," with additional collaborations planned with Angelina Jolie.
