Princess Diaries 3 is reportedly making significant progress, with author Meg Cabot enthusiastically endorsing the current script. Cabot, who created the beloved young-adult book series, shared that she has read a version of the screenplay and found it "amazing." She has explicitly stated her fondness for this particular iteration, indicating it's her favorite among several developed over the years.

Star Anne Hathaway has also confirmed her commitment to reprising her iconic role as Mia Thermopolis, who has ascended to the position of queen of Genovia. Hathaway mentioned that "expectations are very, very high" for the film, emphasizing the need to "knock it out of the park."

Further development sees Adele Lim, the writer behind Crazy Rich Asians, attached to direct the third installment. Lim expressed her excitement, stating her intention to "celebrate its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship" for audiences worldwide. The project faced delays following the 2016 death of director Garry Marshall, but Disney decided to move forward with it in 2022.
