- The Earl Spencer chose the secluded spot for his sister's burial in 1997.

A new 14-foot magnolia tree has been planted on a private island at Althorp, the childhood home of Princess Diana. The tree is situated near the perimeter of an oval lake where the late royal, who died tragically in 1997 at the age of 36, is buried.
Charles, Earl Spencer, Princess Diana's younger brother, shared the news of the serene addition. He selected the secluded Althorp estate for his sister's final resting place due to widespread public emotion following her death.
The burial site, accessible only by boat, was chosen to ensure Diana's grave could be properly cared for by her family and visited privately by her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The Earl inherited Althorp, a 13,000-acre estate, in 1992.
