Prince William to Honor Norway's Late King Harald V

Prince William is set to represent his father, King Charles, at the funeral of Norway's late monarch, King Harald V. The announcement was made by Buckingham Palace. King Harald V died on August 28th at the age of 89, following a 35-year reign marked by modernization and inclusivity.

William's aunt, the Princess Royal, will also attend the service. She is doing so in a private capacity as the godmother of the new King Haakon VIII. King Harald V, known for his warmth and informal style, has been mourned as a "people's king" who significantly shaped the Norwegian monarchy.

The funeral will take place on September 9th at Oslo Cathedral. King Charles, who is a dear cousin and kinsman of the late King Harald, paid tribute to his "unwavering dedication" and "kindness." This duty follows precedent, as the reigning sovereign typically does not attend funerals of other heads of state.

William has previously represented his father at significant international events, including the funeral of Pope Francis in the Vatican last year. He and the Princess of Wales also shared a warm connection with King Harald and Queen Sonja, having visited Norway in 2018.
