Royal Shakeup: Prince Andrew Relinquishes Titles, Impacting Family
28 Oct
Summary
- Prince Andrew gives up royal titles
- Sarah Ferguson to no longer use Duchess of York title
- Beatrice and Eugenie's positions unaffected

As of October 2025, Prince Andrew has made the decision to relinquish his royal titles, raising questions about the status of his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and their two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
According to the report, Beatrice and Eugenie's positions within the royal family will remain unaffected by this change. However, Sarah Ferguson, known as Fergie, will continue to use her professional name but will no longer be referred to as the Duchess of York.
Prince Andrew and Fergie were married in 1986 and received the titles of Duke and Duchess of York from Queen Elizabeth. The couple separated in 1992 and divorced in 1996, but they have remained close and even continued to live together.
Following the divorce, Sarah retained her Duchess of York title, as is customary for former wives of peers. However, the Queen issued a new letters patent in 1996 that stated former wives of sons of the sovereign would no longer be entitled to the "Royal Highness" styling.
This means that while Beatrice and Eugenie will keep their princess titles and place in the line of succession, their mother, Fergie, will no longer be able to use the Duchess of York title.
