Premalu Yanked From Streaming Ahead of Hindi Remake

The popular Malayalam film Premalu, a 2024 blockbuster, has been unexpectedly removed from JioHotstar. This decision comes months before the scheduled release of its Hindi adaptation, titled Prem Keetanu. The removal has incensed fans, who are questioning why a highly successful romantic comedy was taken offline.

The makers of Prem Keetanu, starring Veer Pahariya, recently unveiled its teaser. While many recognized it as a remake of Premalu, the teaser suggests alterations to the original narrative. However, the original film's removal from JioHotstar, where it was available in multiple languages, has coincided with the lead-up to Prem Keetanu's October 2 release, causing significant fan dismay.

Viewers are concerned about limited access to the original film during the promotional period of its Hindi counterpart. Criticisms have also been leveled against the Prem Keetanu teaser, with some describing the remake as a watered-down version of Premalu. Comments highlight a perceived lack of the original's innocence and relatability in the remake.

Premalu, directed by Girish AD and produced by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, and Syam Pushkaran, was a massive success. Made on a budget of approximately Rs 3 crore, it grossed around Rs 136.25 crore worldwide, becoming one of Malayalam cinema's highest-grossing films.
