Fans hoping to see Sachin and Reenu reunite will have to wait, as Premalu 2 has been temporarily shelved. Actor Naslen confirmed the decision, explaining that the makers could not arrive at a script they were fully satisfied with. The sequel, originally slated for a 2025 release, is not permanently abandoned and could be revived if the right story is found.
Naslen elaborated that the project stopped because the screenplay did not achieve the required perfection, a sentiment echoed by producer Dileesh Pothan. The original film, Premalu, directed by Girish AD, was a critical and commercial success in 2024. It achieved blockbuster status, surpassing Rs 100 crore at the box office.
Set in Hyderabad, the romantic comedy resonated with audiences through its relatable characters and humor. The story followed Sachin's journey after his UK plans faltered, leading him to Hyderabad where he met Reenu. The film's success led to the announcement of a sequel, generating significant fan excitement.
