Summary
- Two oldest Ramlila committees in Prayagraj create tableaux from banana leaves and stems
- Artwork painted with herbal colors to spread message of environmental protection
- Took 15 days to complete the unique tableaux

In the lead-up to Dussehra celebrations in Prayagraj, the city's Ramlila committees are vying to present the most impressive tableaux. However, two of the oldest committees, Pajawa and Pattarchatti, have taken a unique approach by creating eco-friendly displays.
The tableaux presented by these committees on Sunday night were designed to spread the message of environmental protection. The artwork was crafted using banana leaves and stems, while herbal colors were used to paint the background. The Pajawa Ramlila committee's tableau, for instance, showcased the Kalki avatar of Lord Vishnu along with the "Asht Bhairav" (eight forms of Bhairav). According to the committee's treasurer, Sachin Gupta, the deity, his attire, and weapons were all made from natural materials.
The artist behind the Pajawa tableau, Sharad Goswami, revealed that it took 15 days to complete the intricate display. "We had to think a lot about the color to be used in the tableau for the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu and Bhairav," he said. "We are concerned towards the environment, so we decided to prepare a tableau with the same theme using parts of a banana tree. We have not used any artificial material."
Similarly, the tableau created by the Pattarchatti committee, designed by Rajesh Chaurasia, was also made entirely from banana leaves and trunks. These eco-friendly displays showcase the committees' commitment to promoting environmental conservation through their Ramlila celebrations.
