Producer Denise Di Novi has shared insights into the making of the "Practical Magic" sequel, which arrives in theaters this Friday, nearly 30 years after the original film's debut. Di Novi emphasized that the sequel's development was significantly propelled by the enduring cult status of the 1998 film, largely amplified through streaming platforms and social media. She recalled that the original movie faced considerable challenges, including "sexist reviews" and initial lukewarm reception, yet its popularity steadily grew.

The decision to move forward with "Practical Magic 2" was solidified by the overwhelming online conversation and demand from fans. Di Novi credited Warner Bros. Pictures co-heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca for recognizing the sequel's potential and greenlighting the project once she, Sandra Bullock, and Nicole Kidman agreed on the timing. The production itself saw changes, with the sequel being filmed in London primarily for economic efficiencies, a stark indicator of how the film business has evolved.
