In September 2025, actress Indya Moore, who gained acclaim for her portrayal of Angel Evangelista in the FX series Pose, has criticized her former boss, producer Ryan Murphy, for not using his platform to speak up about the ongoing attacks against the trans community by the U.S. government.
In an emotional video posted to her Instagram, Moore thanked Murphy and others who "have ever given us jobs" and "allowed us to be able to speak out," before slamming the influential showrunner for his silence. Moore questioned how Murphy could create a groundbreaking series like Pose during the Trump administration's 2016-2020 term, only to then "disappear" afterwards.
The actress also revealed that she has been "reprimanded" in the past for speaking up about "mistreatment" she faced on the set of Pose, including an incident where a producer allegedly threw potato chips at her. Moore expressed her disappointment, saying that Murphy's silence on the issue is "garbage" and "an embarrassment."
Moore's statements came amid a broader video in which she emotionally reacted to the Trump administration's continued targeting of the trans community since the president's second term began in January 2025. The actress questioned the competing narratives used by the president and his supporters, who have alternately portrayed trans people as "mentally ill" and in need of "help," or as "terrorists" who pose a threat.
In the video, Moore urged her followers to continue standing up for trans people's rights and safety, and specifically called on Murphy to "do more" to address the "racism, the violence, and the targeting of people" on his productions, as well as to ensure that trans people are paid equally.
