Hulu's upcoming pilot, 'Young Americans,' is building its cast with the addition of Poorna Jagannathan as a series regular. She joins previously announced actors for the political drama set at Capitol Crest Academy in Washington, D.C.
The series, from writers Chris Hutton and Eddie O'Keefe, explores how the intense teenage dramas of the nation's elite children mirror the larger political machinations of their parents. Secrets, scandals, and dangerous ambitions will be at the forefront.
A central forbidden romance between students from opposing political families is set to dangerously heighten existing tensions. Jagannathan will portray Senator Maya Washburn, a close ally of the President who has become a controversial figure rallying a disillusioned electorate.
Her character's son is entangled in a romance with the President's daughter, adding a personal layer to the political intrigue. The pilot is directed by Natalia Leite, who previously worked on Hulu's 'The Handmaid's Tale' and is executive produced by Bruce Miller, the creator of 'The Handmaid's Tale.'
