Mumbai police have recommended closing a criminal case filed by filmmaker Vashu Bhagnani. The FIR, registered against director Ali Abbas Zafar and executive producer Himanshu Mehra, alleged cheating, criminal breach of trust, forgery, and defamation concerning the 2024 film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
However, the police's 'C' Summary report suggests the complaint was based on a "mistake of fact," indicating insufficient evidence for prosecution. The report noted that Bhagnani's claim of a Rs 9 crore fraud lacked specific details regarding how it was committed or any analysis of the alleged fraudulent amounts.
Bhagnani, who stated his company spent Rs 230 crore on the film, has filed a protest petition against the closure. Advocates for Zafar and Mehra stated that the investigation found no criminality in the allegations and that their clients fully cooperated. The police have requested the court to classify the case as neither true nor false.
