PMO Steps In: Actor's Odisha Beach Drowning Probe Intensifies
13 Jun
Summary
- PMO directed Odisha government to investigate actor's drowning.
- AICWA filed complaint citing negligence and demanding compensation.
- Actor drowned on March 29 while filming at Talsari Beach.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has intervened in the investigation into the drowning death of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee. The PMO has directed the Odisha government to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, which occurred over two-and-a-half months ago.
This action was prompted by a complaint lodged with the PMO by the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA). The association is calling for a deep probe and accountability for those allegedly responsible for the incident at Talsari beach. The PMO has forwarded the grievance to Odisha's Chief Minister's Office and Chief Secretary for urgent attention.
Authorities in Odisha have reportedly requested the Balasore Superintendent of Police to review the case. Sources suggest the investigation might be transferred to a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The AICWA complaint names the producers Leena Gangopadhyay and Saibal Banerjee, their production house, and other associated individuals.
Rahul Arunoday Banerjee lost his life on March 29 while filming a scene. He and co-actor Sweta Mishra were in knee-deep water when they slipped into a deep ditch. While Mishra escaped, Banerjee was swept away by strong currents. The incident has raised significant questions about safety protocols within the entertainment industry, particularly in Tollywood.
