Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher's "Pizza Movie" playfully subverts the stoner comedy genre for a new generation. The film centers on accidental stoners Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone, who ingest unidentified pills and embark on a quest for a pizza.
This chaotic romp features a rapid-fire delivery of gags and surreal reality shifts, including body swaps and musical numbers. The plot, while secondary, involves retrieving a pizza to counteract a bad high and fighting a dorm eviction.
Premiering on Hulu next month following its SXSW debut, the film aims for cult status with its deliberately juvenile and disheveled aesthetic. Its success hinges on its relentless joke-cracking and the chemistry between its leads.
