The 36th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), taking place from November 26 to December 7, 2025, is set to celebrate the achievements of pioneering women filmmakers. The festival will open with the award-winning directorial debut of Taiwanese actress Shu Qi, titled "Girl," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year.
In a historic first, acclaimed Indian filmmaker Deepa Mehta will receive the prestigious Cinema Honorary Award, recognizing her exceptional and enduring contributions to Asian cinema. Mehta's acclaimed Elements trilogy - "Fire" (1996), "Earth" (1998), and "Water" (2005) - will be showcased alongside her recent film "Funny Boy" (2020) as part of the festival's Landmark section.
The festival will present a diverse lineup of over 120 films from more than 45 countries, offering audiences a rich tapestry of global cinematic talents. The Asian Feature Film Competition has expanded to include filmmakers at every stage of their careers, with a vibrant cross-section of regional cinema featuring 10 titles. The festival's local programming has also expanded significantly, with more than 30 feature and short films by Singaporean filmmakers and co-producers.
