A feature film chronicling the life of Bertrand Russell, the renowned British philosopher who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950, is moving forward. The project marks the first theatrical biopic about Russell, who established himself as a pioneering figure in analytic philosophy and one of the 20th century's foremost logicians.
Russell's remarkable life and career, spanning nearly a century from 1872 to 1970, will be the focus of the film. Beyond his groundbreaking work in mathematics, logic and philosophy, the film will explore Russell's role as a tireless advocate for peace and social justice. The filmmakers view his commitment to pacifism, opposition to imperialism, and humanitarian principles as particularly resonant in the current political climate.
The project is being developed by Danish-Chinese filmmaker and scholar Amanda Renai Curdt-Christiansen as part of her practice-based PhD research at the U.K.'s De Montfort University. The film has secured backing from the U.K.'s Arts and Humanities Research Council and is being developed alongside the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation, which will provide access to its archives and expert consultations.
