Marina Sirtis Finds Picard Reunion 'Depressing'
20 Mar
Summary
- Marina Sirtis described the Star Trek: Picard reunion as depressing.
- Smartphones changed the on-set vibe compared to The Next Generation.
- Future Star Trek Legacy series seems unlikely due to cast age.

Star Trek: Picard Season 3, celebrated for reuniting the original cast of The Next Generation, was described as a "depressing" experience by actress Marina Sirtis. Sirtis, who reprised her role as Deanna Troi, contrasted the atmosphere on the Picard set with that of The Next Generation. She attributed some of this change to the ubiquitous presence of smartphones, a technology not present during TNG's filming era.
Following the death of her husband in 2019, Sirtis had relocated to the UK. While she acknowledged her gratitude for her work on Picard, the reunion's dynamic was not what she had hoped for. Furthermore, Sirtis has expressed skepticism regarding the possibility of a Star Trek: Legacy follow-up series. She recently suggested during a fan cruise panel that studios might be reluctant to invest in a cast whose members are mostly over 70 years old, effectively dashing fan expectations for future installments.
Despite Sirtis's sentiments, there were reports of a potential continuation pitch from Paramount to Jeri Ryan, who declined it, stating it didn't align with fan desires. As of 2026-03-20, no formal announcements for a new Star Trek series are planned, with ongoing mergers potentially delaying new projects. Star Trek: Picard is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
