Phil Collins: Taylor Swift Deserves Global Stardom

Phil Collins has lauded Taylor Swift, asserting that the pop superstar "deserves" her current status as a global phenomenon. He recounted being "blown away completely" upon witnessing Swift perform her song "White Horse" at a Songwriters Hall of Fame event approximately 15 years prior to 2026-08-02T10:18:58+00:00. Collins expressed his pleasure that Swift is now "the hugest thing in the world," believing her success is well-earned.

In a separate revelation during a BBC Radio 2 interview, Collins shared that his renowned solo hit "In the Air Tonight" was significantly improvised. He explained that roughly 80% of the lyrics were created spontaneously, with the song's atmospheric sound achieved through a Prophet-5 keyboard. This upcoming year, 2026, will see Collins inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist, sixteen years after his induction with Genesis.
