The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, known as PÖFF, is marking its 30th anniversary with a special focus on Baltic cinema. This initiative, supported by the Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian Film Institutes, aims to increase international visibility for films and filmmakers from the region. PÖFF, the largest A-list festival in the Baltics, will present a curated selection of contemporary fiction and documentary features, as well as retrospectives of landmark films from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
The festival's Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event will further highlight emerging Baltic film projects, industry professionals, and attractive tax incentives that have boosted foreign productions. Recent accolades, including an Oscar for Latvia's "Flow," a Sundance award for Estonia's "Smoke Sauna Sisterhood," and a Locarno win for Lithuania's "Toxic," underscore the growing international recognition of Baltic cinema.
Officials from the Estonian, Lithuanian, and Latvian film centers expressed pride in the collaboration and growth of their respective industries. They emphasized that PÖFF provides a crucial platform for Baltic films and filmmakers to achieve international recognition. The 30th PÖFF festival is scheduled to take place in Tallinn and Tartu from November 6 to 22, 2026.
