Street art has transformed the space beneath Peterborough's Nene Parkway Flyover, preparing for a major music event. The Under May Weekender, a drum 'n' bass festival hosted by Mixology, is scheduled for May 2-3 and anticipates thousands of attendees. Artists like Nathan Murdoch and Tony Nero have completed six striking murals under the bridge. These artworks are inspired by musicians performing at the rave and even feature local personalities, including the popular 'pension-age raver' known as Grandad Skank. The artists worked collaboratively, with murals often completed within a day and a half.
The festival, named Unitee, will bring together numerous drum and bass artists, including BBC Radio 1's Charlie Tee. Organizers highlighted the positive impact of such events on the city, drawing visitors and boosting the local economy. The novelty of hosting a large rave under a motorway adds to its unique appeal. This cultural fusion of urban art and electronic music is expected to be a significant draw for both local residents and music fans from further afield.
