Peter Frampton, 76, is actively creating music despite his ongoing diagnosis of Inclusion-Body Myositis, a progressive muscle disease he has managed since 2015. He finds ways to adapt his guitar playing to his condition, focusing on the positive challenges it presents. His latest album, 'Carry the Light,' released recently, features entirely new material and was a collaboration with his son, Julian Frampton. This marks his first album of new songs in 16 years. Frampton also recently stepped back into the spotlight with the premiere of the documentary "Frampton" on June 4th at the Tribeca Festival. The film addresses his health struggles while also commemorating the 50th anniversary of his iconic live album, "Frampton Comes Alive!" Reflecting on the bewildering success of "Frampton Comes Alive!" 50 years ago, Frampton admits he felt nervous after the album reached No. 1 and broke records. He has learned to trust his instincts more, acknowledging a past mistake of listening too much to others rather than his own gut feeling. His new album includes a tribute to Tom Petty, "Buried Treasure," with lyrics inspired by Petty's song titles, stemming from Petty's role as a musical teacher through his SiriusXM show. The track "Lions at the Gate" addresses political themes of buying influence, featuring a guitar battle with Tom Morello. Frampton also collaborated with Sheryl Crow on "Breaking the Mold," praising her professionalism and genuine nature. He cherishes his role as 'Papa' to his two granddaughters, Elle and Rain. Frampton views this current period as a "great period," feeling lucky to still be playing music, creating new material, and doing so with his family.
