Barbara Lavandeira, the sister of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, has publicly defended her brother after a recent self-harm incident sparked harsh online reactions. Critics labeled the event "karma," a response Lavandeira found deeply painful.

She acknowledged the "hate" directed at Hilton due to his past actions, which included mocking celebrities on his widely known blog. However, Lavandeira emphasized that Hilton has publicly admitted the harm he caused and has repeatedly apologized since 2010, including on network television.

Lavandeira stated she is not asking people to forget or excuse his past but to recognize his significant personal transformation over the past 20 years. She believes individuals should not be defined solely by their worst past actions, especially when they have acknowledged their mistakes and shown genuine growth.

Her comments followed Jared Padalecki's retraction of support for Hilton. Padalecki initially offered well wishes, citing the "being human" experience, but withdrew his post after learning about Hilton's history. Padalecki apologized, admitting he was unaware of the extent of Hilton's past behavior.

In a July podcast appearance, Hilton himself expressed deep regret for targeting celebrities, stating he has reached out to figures like Neil Patrick Harris and Britney Spears to make amends. He described his past cruelty as a "scarlet letter" he carries.
