Penélope Cruz will be absent from the world premiere of her latest film, 'The Invite,' at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 24. The actress is currently engaged in filming a new project in Spain, which conflicts with her travel plans to the Utah-based festival. This situation means she will miss the debut of the movie directed by Olivia Wilde.

'The Invite' also features Olivia Wilde and Seth Rogen as one couple, with Cruz and Edward Norton portraying another in the film. According to its Sundance synopsis, the movie delves into the complexities of relationships, including grievances and insecurities, during a shared dinner. This project signifies Olivia Wilde's first directorial endeavor since her 2022 thriller 'Don't Worry Darling,' and it is Cruz's first film since 2023's 'Ferrari.'

Wilde previously announced the completion of filming in May, expressing deep gratitude for the collaborative experience. The film, described as a "provocative date night comedy," is inspired by the 2020 Spanish film 'Sentimental' and features a screenplay by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. Wilde also shared her excitement in December upon learning that 'The Invite' was selected for the Sundance premiere.
