In a move to support early literacy development, PBS Kids is expanding its "Super Why's Comic Book Adventures" series into a full 39-episode program set to debut in 2026. The new series, which originally launched as a series of shorts in 2023, will focus on building key reading skills for preschoolers and kindergarteners, including letter-sound knowledge, phonological awareness, spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension.
The series will feature the return of beloved characters from the original "Super Why" series, which ran for 103 episodes from 2007 to 2016. This includes Power Paige, the newest Super Reader, as well as fan favorites like Super Why, Wonder Red, Princess Presto, and Alpha Pig. Together, the reading heroes will use their unique literacy powers and gadgets to protect Reader Valley from a group of silly Super Villains.
With recent research showing a growing percentage of children reading below their grade level, the new "Super Why's Comic Book Adventures" series aims to provide engaging, curriculum-based content to help young viewers develop essential reading skills. In addition to the episodes, which will include songs reinforcing the lessons, PBS Kids will also release four new games and three digital storybooks to further support early literacy development.
