PBS & ITVS Launch YouTube Doc Channel
26 Mar
Summary
- PBS and ITVS launched a YouTube channel for documentaries.
- The channel aims to reach new audiences on digital platforms.
- Over 100 new videos will be distributed annually on the channel.

PBS and Independent Television Service (ITVS) have introduced a dedicated YouTube channel, PBS Documentaries. This platform aims to connect with new audiences by distributing content where they already engage online.
The channel launched with a YouTube premiere of 'The Inquisitor,' focusing on Barbara Jordan's legacy. Future premieres include 'Keep Quiet and Forgive' and nature series 'Our New World,' as well as films on the little people community and horse racing workers.
Over 100 new videos will be added annually. These will include full-length and short documentaries from series like Independent Lens, POV, and Voces, alongside content from PBS and BBC Studios partnerships. Science and history specials from PBS Digital Studios will also be featured.
This expansion into digital spaces occurs as both PBS and ITVS face significant funding challenges. Congress defunded the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 2025, leading to federal funding cuts for these organizations and subsequent layoffs.
