According to a recent announcement, in 2028 Sony Pictures will release a sprawling, four-film cinematic event about the legendary rock band, the Beatles. The ambitious project, currently titled "The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event," is being directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sam Mendes.
The cast for the films has also been revealed. Paul Mescal will take on the role of Paul McCartney, while Saoirse Ronan has been cast as Linda McCartney, Paul's wife. The other Beatles members will be portrayed by Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon.
This marks the first time the Beatles and their company, Apple Corps Ltd., have allowed the use of the band's story and music in scripted films. The project is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Mendes' Neal Street Productions, with the screenplay being written by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne.
The films will each explore the life of a different band member, providing a comprehensive look at the iconic group's rise to fame and lasting impact on music and popular culture.
