Patliputra Durga Puja Samiti is marking its 66th year in 2026 with a celebration embodying community unity. Muslim dhakis from Patna City, led by Mohammed Riyazuddin, are participating, reflecting an inclusive spirit that has brought residents together since 1961. The festivities are held at the Patliputra Cooperative Society office.
The event features a 10-ft Durga idol and a 4,000-sq-ft venue adorned with chandeliers. 'Pushpanjali' ceremonies on Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami are anticipated to draw 4,000-5,000 devotees daily. Sandhi Puja is scheduled for October 19, 2026, at 7:28 am.
Food is a central element, with daily bhog for 2,000-3,000 people, featuring khichdi and charchari. Organizers estimate daily preparation of one quintal of rice and 50kg of dal. Dancing 'aarti' and cultural programmes, including performances by local talent and singers Sunil and Divya, are scheduled from October 17 to 19.
With a budget of Rs 5 lakh, security measures including CCTV surveillance and police coordination are in place. The puja committee emphasizes collective participation, with neighbours contributing time and effort to manage arrangements and serve visitors, reinforcing the celebration's communal essence.
