Patna Durga Puja: 80-Foot Khajuraho Temple Pandal to Dazzle

Summary

  • An 80-foot-high Khajuraho temple-themed pandal is the main attraction.
  • Experts from West Bengal and Kolkata Art College designed the pandal.
  • Unique materials like jute bags and clay from Varanasi are used.

This year, Patna's Durga Puja celebrations will be headlined by an impressive 80-foot-high pandal, meticulously designed to replicate a Khajuraho temple. Experts from Kanthi, West Bengal, along with an artist from Kolkata Art College, have collaborated on this magnificent structure.

To achieve an authentic temple-like appearance, the construction incorporates materials such as jute bags, fiber idols, colored stones, silk threads, and Dugla leaves sourced from the India-Bangladesh border. The committee has commissioned the idol's creation to Jagannath Pal, an artist with a 31-year history of crafting for the committee, using clay and water from sacred locations like Varanasi, Haridwar, and the Hooghly river.

Adding to the grandeur, twelve imposing LED gates, each standing approximately 57 feet high, will illuminate the route between Dakbunglow Crossing and Kotwali. These gates will display a variety of themes, including the Jagannath Puri Temple, peacocks, butterflies, and tridents. Several artistic installations, such as Lord Shiva and Lord Vishwakarma on an elephant and a ghost with a child, are also planned attractions. Over 500 volunteers will ensure smooth crowd management during the festivities.
