Patna is set to host 'Arghya', a three-day art exhibition dedicated to the Chhath festival, from November 28 to 30 at the Lalit Kala Academy's art gallery. This event, organized by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach), will feature the diverse artistic expressions of 53 prominent artists, encompassing traditional Bihar art forms such as Madhubani paintings, Manjusha, Tikuli, and Patna Kalam.
The exhibition is a key component of Intach's broader campaign to have the Chhath festival recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The state art and culture department has partnered with Intach, appointing them as a knowledge partner to aid in compiling the necessary documentation for the UNESCO nomination. This dossier will include a wide array of materials, from sculptures and paintings to folk songs and photographs, all representative of the festival.
Distinguished guests, including university and planning school representatives from Germany and Bhopal, are expected to attend, fostering interaction with the audience. With support from art centers in New Delhi and Patna, and curated by noted artists, 'Arghya' promises to be a significant cultural event celebrating and advocating for Chhath's global recognition.
