Party Turns Deadly: Secrets Unravel After Gunshot

The Party, a five-part thriller adapted from Elizabeth Day's bestseller, throws viewers into a chaotic scenario. Lucy Gilmour, heavily pregnant, attends a Victorian-themed party where a gunshot dramatically disrupts the festivities. The incident immediately draws police attention, with political journalist Martin, Lucy's husband, found in a bloodstained shirt.

The narrative then unfolds through flashbacks, revealing a complex web of relationships, past indiscretions, and betrayals among the wealthy and politically connected guests. The series features a cast of morally ambiguous characters, including charismatic host Ben Fitzmaurice and his family, whose own secrets begin to surface.

Political machinations are at play as a leadership contest looms, with Martin seemingly entangled in Ben's schemes. The story hints at old rivalries, potential scandals, and hidden connections, notably involving a character named Phoebe.

Despite moments that threaten to derail the plot, the series maintains a fast pace and an engaging mystery. Viewers are drawn into the intricate story, eager to uncover the truth behind the events of the party, even as the characters remain unlikeable. The adaptation is praised for its casting and compelling storytelling.
