Paramount Taps Dungeons & Dragons Directors for Fresh Star Trek Film
14 Nov
Summary
- New Star Trek movie in the works, first since 2016
- Directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, known for "Game Night"
- Film to feature completely new take, not connected to previous movies or shows

In a major shakeup for the Star Trek franchise, Paramount has announced that it has hired directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to helm a new Star Trek film. This will be the first Star Trek movie since 2016's "Star Trek Beyond."
Daley and Goldstein, known for their work on comedies like "Game Night" and the recent "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," have been tasked with writing, producing, and directing the new Star Trek project. According to reports, the film will feature a "completely new take" on the iconic sci-fi franchise, unconnected to any previous movies or TV shows.
The decision to move away from the Kelvin timeline, which featured the cast of the J.J. Abrams-directed films, is a significant one. Earlier this month, it was reported that Paramount's new leadership wanted to move on from that cast, including Chris Pine and Zoe Saldaña. This new film will introduce a fresh set of characters and a brand-new storyline for the Star Trek universe.
Daley and Goldstein's hiring is seen as an encouraging sign, as the duo has proven their ability to handle large ensemble casts and deliver engaging action sequences. Their work on "Dungeons & Dragons" in particular has shown their aptitude for tackling beloved sci-fi/fantasy properties in a new and exciting way.
