Paramount+ Defies Merger Drama with New Series Premiere

Paramount+ recently hosted a premiere screening for Taylor Sheridan's new drama series, "The Madison," starring Michelle Pfeiffer. This event took place shortly after Warner Bros. Discovery's acquisition of Paramount's offer and Netflix's withdrawal from a potential deal. The screening was held at the San Vicente Bungalows, a venue frequently used by HBO. Cindy Holland, Paramount's Direct to Consumer chair, introduced the family drama, noting its debut on March 14 with the first three episodes of its six-episode season. A second season is already filmed. The series aligns with Paramount+'s strategy to expand into female-driven dramas. Other recent commissions in this vein include "Discretion" and "Fear Not." "The Madison" features a largely female cast and crew, including director Christina Alexandra Voros. Taylor Sheridan, who wrote all episodes for both seasons, has a production deal with Paramount until January 2029. Paramount+ is also experimenting with release models, with "The Madison's" first season dropping in two installments. The series follows the Clyburn family from New York City to Montana and features a cast including Kurt Russell and Will Arnett.
