Paramount & Netflix End Animated Film Deal

Paramount and Netflix have concluded their animated film agreement, as confirmed by both companies. This decision marks the end of a specific pact between the two entities.

Despite this development, the commitment to releasing upcoming animated features on Netflix remains firm. Projects such as Brad Bird's "Ray Gunn," anticipated for awards season, and Rich Moore's untitled Jack and the Beanstalk project are still slated for Netflix distribution.

Paramount will continue to license a variety of content to Netflix, including popular series like "Matlock," "The King of Queens," "Seal Team," "Watson," and "NCIS." This ongoing relationship ensures continued content flow between the two companies.

Skydance Animation, a distinct label under Paramount Pictures, operates separately from Paramount Animation. Its recent feature "Swapped" achieved significant viewership on Netflix, becoming one of the platform's most-watched movies ever with 144.9 million global views. Skydance's future projects include "Spellbound" for Netflix in 2024 and "Cosmic Motors" for theatrical release by Paramount.

Netflix Animation boasts recent hits like "The Sea Beast," "Leo," and the Oscar-winning "Pinocchio." Its global phenomenon "KPop Demon Hunters" is Netflix's most-watched movie ever at 325.1 million global views and achieved the streamer's first No. 1 box office position with $19 million in late August 2025. Upcoming Netflix Animation releases include "Steps," "Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory," Guillermo del Toro's "The Buried Giant," an original Ghostbusters feature, and sequels to "Leo" and "KPop Demon Hunters."
