The Paper's Ned & Mare: Surprise Romance!

Domhnall Gleeson, who portrays Ned Sampson in the Peacock series The Paper, admitted to being surprised by the swift progression of his character's relationship with Mare Pritti in season 2. The Irish actor expected a slower development for the on-screen colleagues.

Gleeson noted that the show focused on the dramatic aspects of Ned and Mare's romance, a choice he believes worked well within the constraints of a 10-episode season. His co-star, Chelsea Frei, who plays Mare, agreed that the rapid advancement, coupled with the need for secrecy at work, generated significant tension.

Frei also highlighted the unique challenge and fun of acting in a mockumentary format, where they had to portray different versions of themselves depending on whether the documentary crew was present. This added a layer of complexity to their performances.

Beyond the central romance, The Paper's second season features Ned embarking on a journalistic crusade against a local private club, potentially jeopardizing the newspaper. Meanwhile, Esmeralda navigates her role, and the reporting staff collectively mature in their professional abilities.
