Palmtrees & Neon Unite for Global Filmmaker Incubator
1 Apr
Summary
- Palmtrees incubator partners with Neon to support global filmmakers.
- Program targets writers from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Oceania.
- Selected writers will receive script development and a paid residency.

Palmtrees, a screenplay incubator founded by Funa Maduka, has joined forces with Neon, the acclaimed indie studio behind films like "Anora" and "Parasite." This new partnership will establish a development program for emerging filmmakers from historically underrepresented regions. The initiative aims to provide the necessary infrastructure for rigorous script development.
Applications for the program will open on March 31, with a deadline of June 1. Aspiring writers from Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, and Oceania are encouraged to apply by submitting a treatment and the initial 15 pages of a genre screenplay. Selection criteria will focus on project strength rather than prior credits.
Funa Maduka highlighted the critical need for sustained, skilled attention for writers, especially those from regions lacking established development infrastructure. Neon CEO Tom Quinn expressed excitement about collaborating with Palmtrees to support this next generation of global cinematic voices. Selected participants will engage in one-on-one script analysis and a three-week in-person residency, with compensation provided.
