Overwatch Season 5, titled "A Grim Doctrine," is now live, marking a significant update for the popular hero shooter. The season introduces a new support character, Doctrine, a villain with vampiric abilities that can empower allies and debilitate opponents. Doctrine's kit allows for versatile play, with his ultimate, Deliverance, providing overhealth to allies and reducing enemy maximum health.
This season also features substantial reworks for two established heroes. Sombra transitions from a damage role to support, gaining new abilities to heal allies and reduce enemy damage output while retaining her stealth and EMP ultimate. Roadhog, a tank, receives changes that largely remove his one-shot hook combo, introducing a new "Trash Compactor" ability to mitigate damage, aiming for a more team-focused gameplay experience.
Complementing these character updates is the addition of Grimsvotn, a new escort map set in an Icelandic prison. This update is part of Overwatch's year-long anniversary celebration, which includes plans for 10 new heroes this year. Players can also revisit past battle passes through a new Unvaulted Passes system.
