Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, one of Disney's foundational characters and Walt Disney's first major creation, is set for a modern revival. This beloved figure, who predates Mickey Mouse by a year, will star in a new three-part miniseries on Disney+.
The upcoming series, a blend of live-action and hand-drawn 2D animation, is being written, directed, and executive produced by Jon Favreau. It is scheduled for release in February 2027, bringing Oswald back into the pop culture spotlight.
Voiced by a star-studded cast including Amy Sedaris, Kathryn Hahn, and Steve Martin, the series aims to reintroduce Oswald to a new generation. Created in 1927, Oswald was pivotal in Walt Disney's early career before the rights were lost, leading to the creation of Mickey Mouse. Disney reacquired Oswald's rights in 2006.
