The Academy Awards are embarking on a new chapter, relocating to L.A. Live's Peacock Theater starting in 2029. This change coincides with the 101st Oscars ceremony.
A decade-long partnership has been established between the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and AEG, a prominent sports and entertainment promotion company. This agreement, set to run from 2029 through 2039, designates the Peacock Theater as the new permanent home for the Academy Awards.
As part of the deal, AEG plans to undertake comprehensive enhancements to the Peacock Theater. These upgrades will focus on critical areas such as the stage, sound and lighting systems, lobbies, and backstage facilities. AEG will collaborate closely with the Academy to ensure the venue is perfectly tailored for the Oscars ceremony.
The L.A. Live plaza will also play a role, hosting red carpet arrivals and various activities. This move to L.A. Live follows the Academy's exclusive global rights deal with YouTube, which also commences in 2029. The Oscars will continue their broadcast on ABC and originate from the Dolby Theatre until the 100th Academy Awards in 2028.
