Summary
- Shonda Rhimes explains Eric Dane's Oscar In Memoriam exclusion.
- Rhimes cites Dane's television career for Oscars oversight.
- Oscars expanded tributes for Redford, Keaton, and Reiner.

Shonda Rhimes, the creator of 'Grey's Anatomy,' has offered an explanation for Eric Dane's absence from the Oscars' televised In Memoriam segment. Dane, who passed away in February at the age of 53 following a battle with ALS, was among several notable figures not included in the tribute. Rhimes stated that Dane was primarily a television actor, suggesting he would be more appropriately honored at the Emmy Awards, which focus on television achievements.
Despite the exclusion of Dane and other actors like James Van Der Beek and Bud Cort, the Oscars did expand tributes for prominent film figures. Robert Redford, Diane Keaton, and Rob Reiner received larger honors during the ceremony. Barbra Streisand sang in memory of Redford, and Rachel McAdams spoke about Keaton. Billy Crystal led a tribute to Rob Reiner, joined by numerous actors from his films.
