Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired distribution rights for the Holocaust survivor drama "The Optimist," scheduling a digital release for November 17 and a physical media launch on December 18. The film previously had a U.S. theatrical release in March.
Directed by Finn Taylor, "The Optimist" stars Stephen Lang as Herbert Heller, a survivor of the Terezín and Auschwitz concentration camps. The narrative follows Heller's journey of healing and resilience as he forms an unexpected bond with a struggling teenager named Abby, portrayed by Elsie Fisher.
This cross-generational story moves between the present and Heller's past, recounting his experiences from his childhood in Prague during the 1930s and 40s through his internment in concentration camps and subsequent escape. The film highlights how their shared vulnerability enables Heller to publicly share his story and find healing.
The ensemble cast includes Luke David Blumm, Leah Pipes, and Ben Geurens. The film's production was a decade-long passion project for producer Jeanine Thomas, who was inspired by Heller's impact when he spoke at schools.
