Summary
- Emmy winner Matthew Lewis will create another one-shot series.
- The new project will feature a different story and format.
- The team utilized a DJI Ronin 4D camera for 'Adolescence'.

Emmy-winning cinematographer Matthew Lewis revealed that he and camera operator Lee David Brown intend to produce another series filmed in a single, continuous take. Lewis, who received a Primetime Emmy for his work on 'Adolescence,' stated that this new project will not replicate the existing story but will explore the same format. The team aims to let the previous work 'breathe' before saturating the market with the one-shot style.
For 'Adolescence,' the production team opted for a DJI Ronin 4D with Cooke SP3 lenses, a choice driven by its lightweight design and ease of camera handling between operators. Extensive collaboration between the director, actors, and writer was crucial for blocking, and lighting was programmed with cues synchronized to the camera's movement. Despite the technical challenges and occasional mishaps during the lengthy takes, the focus remained on performance-driven camera work and storytelling.
Lewis, who is typically self-critical, expressed significant pride in 'Adolescence,' calling it his most accomplished project to date. He acknowledged the format's limitations and the compromises it necessitates but highlighted its value in teaching valuable lessons about camera language and motivation. The project's inception stemmed from Lewis's prior work on 'Boiling Point,' directed by Philip Barantini, which also employed a similar filming technique.
