5 Oct
Summary
- 'One Battle After Another' crosses $100 million globally in second week
- Taylor Swift's 'The Life of a Showgirl' tops box office, but underperforms 'Purple Rain'
- Horror films 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' and 'Good Boy' see strong showings

The box office battle this past weekend saw a surprising twist, as 'One Battle After Another' emerged as the real winner, despite Taylor Swift's 'The Life of a Showgirl' topping the charts.
As expected, Swift's cinematic album release event earned $45 million globally. However, 'One Battle After Another' had an even stronger second week, raking in $42 million globally. The film has now crossed the $100 million mark, setting it up for both financial and critical success.
In a twist of fate, 'The Life of a Showgirl' beat Prince's 'Purple Rain' biopic upon its release, which only debuted at number 3. However, 'Purple Rain' went on to have a much longer and more successful run in theaters, earning over $70 million in the years since.
The start of the spooky season has also brought some chills to the box office. 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' is holding strong at number 5, while IFC's 'Good Boy' came in at number 10 with a $2.2 million opening, IFC's third-best debut after 'Clown in the Cornfield' and 'Late Night With the Devil'.
