Summary
- Savannah Guthrie absent from 2026 Winter Olympics coverage due to mother's disappearance.
- Mary Carillo, a seasoned NBC Olympics commentator, will replace Guthrie.
- Craig Melvin also remains stateside, with Ahmed Fareed hosting Olympic Late Night.

Savannah Guthrie will be absent from NBC's coverage of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled to begin on February 6, 2026. The decision comes as Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, is missing. Mary Carillo, a distinguished NBC Sports analyst and former professional tennis player, will replace Guthrie in hosting the opening ceremony coverage alongside Terry Gannon.
Carillo, who previously lived in Milan for two years, has extensive experience, having hosted 14 Olympic Games for NBC. She also won the 1977 French Open mixed doubles title. In a separate change, Craig Melvin, who was slated to host Olympic Late Night, will also remain in the United States. Ahmed Fareed will now host the Olympic Late Night segment, a role he will transition into before heading to Los Angeles for NBA All-Star Weekend.
Guthrie and her siblings released an emotional video on February 4, 2026, appealing for information about their mother. An NBC Sports spokesperson stated that Guthrie is prioritizing being with her family during this difficult time. The family has expressed readiness to communicate with those who may have information about Nancy Guthrie's whereabouts.
